West Contra Costa Fire Safe Council 

WCCFireSafe.org, Established: April 2022 

Agency Liaison: Richmond Fire Chief Angel Montoya 

Accomplishments

Raising Public Awareness and Promoting FireWise Communities 

  • Run by community volunteers 
  • Successfully established two FireWise USA Communities: Kennedy Grove and Greenbriar East (Greenbriar West and others pending)
  • Promoted community collaboration at the local level, working closely with city and state agencies, including the WCCFSC Advisory Board 

Evacuation Drills and Emergency Exit Routes 

  • Conducted evacuation drills in Carriage Hills and Brickyard Landing
  • Initiated and facilitated Emergency Exit Route Projects, ensuring safety for Pinole, Unincorporated El Sobrante, and Hilltop Green community residents 

Mitigation Services and Fundraising 

  • Facilitated Measure X mitigation services, enhancing safety for cities and residents in West Contra Costa 
  • Raised funds to introduce and implement innovative methods to protect homes and prevent wildfires 

A Cal Fire Safe Council grant used for startup activities. 

Red Flag Days, Emergency Preparedness & Emergency Communication

  • Raised public awareness about Red Flag days through facilitating “Fire Danger Today” signs (Fire Station #63) 
  • Promoting Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Emergency Communication (Em Comm) 

Firewise Demonstration Garden at Fire Station #63 

Initiating a firewise garden at Fire Station #63 to promote fire safety education in partnership with UC Master Gardeners 

Fire Station #63 Open Houses, 2022 and 2023 

In collaboration with the Richmond Fire Department, hosted two Open Houses to promote fire safety and engage community
