Wildfire! What would you do on a red flag day when you smell smoke on the breeze??!
- Don’t panic! Visualize. Plan and Practice!
An interactive, community workshop with firefighter advice and many resources to prepare and survive a wildfire.
Wildfire season is coming and it’s likely to be a bad one with low rainfall this winter, and high temperatures this spring. What would you do on a red flag day when you smell smoke on the breeze? When would you leave? What would you grab? How would you get out of your neighborhood, and where would you go?
Share your ideas in small groups, then get advice and resources from local firefighters, online resources, apps and hand outs to help you build go bags and make a specific plan to get your family, pets and neighbors to safety. Be part of building a resilient, well-connected and informed neighborhood. Sue Boudreau will facilitate, with members of the West Contra Costa Fire Safe Council and Richmond Councilor Bana at the Good Table Gathering Space, 3:30-5pm, Sunday, May 3d.
Goals:
– Build community and trust with neighbors and emergency services.
– Develop an evacuation plan
– Get preparedness resources
– Learn about the community communications systems in emergencies – Nixle and CWS
– Plan your evacuation route.
